Mindfulness: what it is about and why it interests you

  • There are those who do not know Mindfulness at all, and there are those who are skeptical. We are not going to try to convince you of anything: we simply want to tell you what Mindfulness consists of and what are the benefits that can be obtained. Then it is up to you to try or not. 

    The truth is that, just as we talk about how to take care of the physical health of the entrepreneur through training, it is also important to worry about keeping mental and emotional hygiene to avoid becoming frustrated or, directly, so burned out that leading your business turns to be so hard for you

  • What is Mindfulness?

  • It is a set of exercises that leads us to have a full awareness of ourselves focusing on today. It involves a reconnection with who we are, leaving aside for a moment the context that surrounds us and the projections in the form of concerns

    This leads us to what is called, as I said, "full consciousness", and it is a mental state that helps us focus attention and develop new skills that allow us to enhance emotional intelligence
  • Maybe you are thinking that, seen that way, it reminds of meditation, and it is normal because Mindfulness is a way of meditating. What happens is that it is devoid of the spiritual or religious meaning that is often given to the fact of meditating. 

    What is clear is that, when it is a technique that has been well established in the business world for so long, it is because it has more useful than fashionable. 

    Companies as representative as Google periodically carry out Mindfulness training for their own employees, convinced of its important virtues for workers. Its program called Search Inside Yourself has turned out to be a complete success and has been implemented internationally by the company. 
  • Advantages of full awareness for entrepreneur

  • It is too common for those of us who are in charge of a business to fall into certain toxic behaviors towards ourselves. 

    I am talking about aspects such as sleeping fewer hours than enough, trying to absorb more work than we can cope with without being able to delegate, leaving aside continuous training or putting our personal life in the background along with those things that make us happy. 

    Those moments, which should be for conciliation, end thinking about problems and solutions over and over,or, in many cases, once again immersed in work. 
  • Among the key virtues of mindfulness we can highlight: 

      • It helps to manage stress: this has an absolutely scientific explanation. During a Mindfulness session, a hormone called cortisol is regulated, which is greatly involved in the generation of stress. 
      • Improves the quantity and quality of sleep: when we obtain the ability to isolate external stimuli, we also alleviate the emotional load, so that we can enter a state of deep relaxation that favors sleep. 
      • It enhances our ability to concentrate: this not only makes us more productive, it also makes the effort made more manageable for us. 
      • Raise our level of self-awareness: by knowing ourselves in a deeper way, we learn to deal with our self. This means that we know what to expect, what to enhance and what to improve, which leads to misunderstand self-demand
  • How to practise Mindfulness?

  • As we have just seen, Mindfulness gives us, entrepreneurs, advantages. The best thing is that, in addition, it does not need too much to be practised as a healthy routine.  

    Within this type of meditation various exercises are used requiring a little time and a pleasant space with a temperature of about 20 degrees and, this is important. Limiting external stimuli to the minimum possible (without noise, calls, messages or nothing at all for a few minutes). 
  • Once we are comfortable, we can start by doing deep breathing exercises, feeling how air enters through our nose, our chest when it swells, and the expiration through our mouth. A body scan is also often done trying to progressively gain awareness from head to toe. Actually, these are just a couple of examples, we invite you to get deeper information. 

    As we get practice, our sessions should ideally last half an hour, but we will start small with 5-10 minute sessions. For work, it will always be better to start doing our exercises to stay focused for the rest of the day.
