Entrepreneur´s dissatisfaction: what it is and how to overcome it

05/03/2020
  • Let's talk about entrepreneur´s dissatisfaction. What is it? Why does this happen? How to overcome it? We help you face it much better and get stronger.

  • In a way, it seems a certain taboo to talk about dissatisfaction or even frustration when working for yourself. They sell us an ideal world in which entrepreneurs drive Italian sports cars and work from remote beaches while sipping a colorful cocktail.

Anyone with a minimum of experience knows that this is not the case. Entrepreneurship is a very enriching task, but, at the same time, it can be hard.

Not only does nothing happen to recognize it: the reality is that it is logical and healthy to assume that there is that part with which you may not be entirely satisfied. Only then can you improve your life and your business.
  • What is entrepreneur´s dissatisfaction?

  • We could define it as all aspects of entrepreneurship that generate situations or feelings of friction and, also work and personal stress. Recurring ideas that condition us negatively.

In many cases, they are circumstances that have to do with the expectations that we have set in the future. We are clear where we want to go, but we do not see the desired results and it seems to be far from the reasons that led us to undertake.

Although the first point may be somewhat subjective, there are others that are very practical and also often cause frustration.

We refer, for example, to problems generated by dealing with the bureaucracy, managing the relationship with the administrations, problems with collecting bills ... All that part of the business that is basic but that comes added and that does not motivate us at all.
  • How can we overcome the entrepreneur´s dissatisfaction?

  • First of all, keep in mind that we all go through it. In one way or another, to a greater or lesser extent. The entrepreneur of the Lamborghini and the daisy does not exist except in very few cases or, directly, only in the fiction that is Instagram.

Do not feel bad about not being completely satisfied, and turn that into an engine of change to change things up as much as possible. Let's see what the main reasons for dissatisfaction may be for most of us.
  • Obsession for control

  • It is something widespread to want to stand over each of the company's processes. This, at first or in relatively small businesses, can be done, but as your business grows so do obligations and the number of tasks multiplies.

It is not a simple exercise, but it is worth taking specific steps. The first one is an internal work, a change of philosophy assuming that it is impossible to reach everything by oneself

On another note, it always helps to delegate, either to a partner or to a provider. But if someone takes care of the details of a task, your work becomes general control and not so detailed (you can always use productivity and project management tools to not leave this entirely). This will give you plenty of air
  • Lack of personal life

  • Entrepreneurship is absorbing, but forget about that mantra that it is repeated around there: it is not a 24/7 task. In fact, when someone falls into that conception of entrepreneurship, it is very easy to end up "burning out" and feeling that they have no life. Think of starting a business as a way of earning a living, not losing it
  • Again, we propose a change in the way you see things. Take back your personal time, reconcile work with family, exercise, take care of your personal well-being, find a hobby, have a trip for a couple of days ... Anything that helps you disconnect is more than welcome.

You will see how, within a few weeks of doing it, you are more productive, you are in a better mood and much more satisfied with what you do.
  • Chronic concern

  • Taxes, invoices, the order that has to arrive before Thursday, no matter how, check if the changes of the new website work ... There are always things that keep you awake and, little by little, they make you annoy and shut yourself off.

Remember that you jumped into the pool because you had motivations that made up for everything else. Stop, take a deep breath and review everything you have already achieved. Surely the balance is in favor of entrepreneurship.

Understand that there are cycles and that, just as you get enormous joys when you achieve something positive but the feeling passes, the same happens with problems.

In any case, we are not saying that you trust that things that are wrong fix by themselves, but instead you minimize what is really and take action in those cases without oversizing the small problems. You have to choose battles and better manage where we focus our attention and effort
  • Before finishing this post, we want to insist once more on something: it is absolutely normal to have to deal with things that do not entirely satisfy us. Do not let that condition you excessively, because the most significant winner you can imagine also goes through this
  • And you, how are you managing entrepreneur´s dissatisfaction? Does it keep you awake or are you able to keep it at bay? Share your personal tricks with us, they will surely be handy to the community.
