Trends in eCommerce in 2020

16/01/2020
  • Let's see what is going to be baked in the coming months. We will point out the trends in eCommerce in 2020 that will definitely triumph.

  • When a new year starts, it can be seen as a path full of difficulties to walk through or a new opportunity to learn, improve and grow your business. Everyone is very free to choose their approach, but you will not deny that things are done better when you have the most positive attitude

Starting from that premise, we are going to analyze some trends that show promise in e-Commerce in 2020 and that can give your enterprise a boost if you get on the right wave.
  • #1 – Interactive email marketing

  • At this point, the fact that email marketing remains a trend year after year is due to two things. The first is effectiveness. It has in its use with loyal audiences (and also as a tool to build loyalty).

The second characteristic is its adaptability. 2020 seems to be the year of interactive emails, which will function as landing pages saving unnecessary friction and clicks.

Since Google announced its version of AMP - accelerated pages for mobile viewing - in Gmail and the possibility of using Java Script in mails, deep thinkers got down to work. This year will be important in that regard.
  • #2 – Make way, customization arrives

  • Well, it has really been here for a long time. What happens is that one of the trends that we are going to see on the rise is to offer each customer a unique and unique shopping experience at all levels.

If we are able to meet our customers, we can launch promotions based on their purchase or browsing history; But let's not forget the product itself. Ecommerce giants falter when the items they sell are not in series, so you can fight with them so that each customer can customize the most of their purchase.

Do not forget to give a touch to packaging: it is something that makes a difference since before opening the box, and can even help you generate some spontaneous unboxings.
  • #3 – Voice shopping takes off

  • Devices with voice assistants such as smartphones and smart speakers is growing worldwide. As you would expect, seeing the companies that are involved in their development, selling through them is something that sounds like a priority objective

Let's see what is happening in the US, where, already in 2018, there were reports showing 26% of voice shopping. And, more importantly, the forecast is that the figure will rise to 55% in the next 2 years

Possibly, we are still far from seeing a direct purchase, but according to the data in this Adobe report, it indirectly contributes to the conversion by allowing easy previous research (47%), price comparison (47%) or, even, the creation of a shopping list (43%).
  • #4 – Responsible and aware consumption

  • When customers have environmental awareness, the shift towards eco-friendly business models is no longer just a matter of corporate responsibility, but also an imposition if we want to make our sales not suffer as much as the planet.

Entrepreneurship in a sustainable way is one of the clearest trends in eCommerce in 2020. Take care to make your business a green initiative saving energy, recycling raw materials, optimizing packaging and, ultimately, reducing the impact you generate. Customers will value it positively, becoming one of the motivations of purchase that will continue to grow from this year onwards.

We recommend that you adapt to the new reality and do not hesitate to communicate it openly. Use it as a commercial argument and differential advantage over other competitors.
  • #5 – 2020 will be the year of Artificial Intelligence

  • We have seen it very clearly during 2019, but it is a trend that consolidates

Google is applying it decisively in its algorithms for SEO. At the end of last year the launch of BERT was known and, in parallel, the changes in the SERPs for local searches, pursuing the use of a natural and semantic language managed by Artificial Intelligence

At another level, we will continue to see the use of chatbots capable of assisting the client with minimal intervention by companies' human teams. We do not believe that it will overthrow people in an absolute way, but they will gain a share in the interaction as another customer service tool that improves their productivity.

These are our bets for 2020. We will see how this year goes and in 12 months we will see how many we have hit the target.
  • And you, what do you think? Which of these trends in eCommerce in 2020 is your favorite? Which of them will be your personal bet? Share your thoughts with us!
