Threads for eCommerce: What Does the New Network Offer?

02/01/2024
  • Is Threads for eCommerce? Is it worth managing a new network? Does it have a future for online stores?

  • There are many questions, but I will try to answer all the doubts it raises for you. I understand; it is normal to be skeptical because, after all, we have seen many platforms that promised to break the market, and then they have fizzled out (or become so specific that they are not very relevant for marketing).

This article you have just started to read is not about convincing or dissuading you from using Threads. All we aim to do is to show you the possibilities it could have for your business.
  • Threads: Instagram's Twitter

  • Let's lay the cards on the table: Threads is set to be the final nail in the coffin for X. Since Elon Musk took over Twitter and changed its name, the truth is that his management has left more shadows than lights.

Is it bad or good that Meta launches its own microblogging network? Well, considering how they have copied everything notable from the competition (be it Snapchat's stories or TikTok's reels), Threads is likely to succeed, as it is a blatant copy of Musk's network, both conceptually and at the interface level.
  • Why Do We Think Threads Will Work?

  • With the closing of the previous paragraph, we spoke of feelings or intuition, but these are backed by some notable facts:

    • It is quite easy to "reconnect" with those who already followed us on Instagram, and X users have been looking for months to "migrate" their community to a more solid platform.
    • Influencers and inherited prescription from Instagram. If there are two networks that stand out for their ability to influence, they are Instagram and TikTok, but the former is distinguished by its inspirational character. Threads could be the tool that favors the definitive leap to a more "commercial" plane, if only because of how easy it is to share links to stores or affiliate platforms, something more complicated right now with the characteristics and usage habits of Instagram.
    • Zero learning curve. Anyone can learn to use it in minutes. If you are a Twitter user, not even that. You can be publishing almost without realizing.
    • Meta knows how to manage online advertising, which is something that Twitter's people can't claim with as much authority. Despite having millions of users, monetization has always been their weakest point. Presumably, Meta will add Threads into its advertising platform, and there we will see if the format sells.

In summary: Threads is a network where you do not start from scratch, it is easy to use, and, moreover from the point of view of online marketing, with possibilities of being a sales tool.

It is easy to think about the possibilities of integrating, for example, the Facebook catalog into our threads.
  • So... Is it worth creating a Threads profile as an eCommerce?

  • It depends on your strategy and objectives. If what you aim to do is to start exploiting it as a commercial asset from minute zero, it will probably disappoint you because it is still in the testing phase, it lacks seemingly basic options (one of the most striking, critical for customer service, is the absence of direct messages) and you can't even make ads natively.

Having said that: I recommend that you create the account now. Why? Basically for two reasons.

The first is brand protection, imagine that Threads consolidates. Don't you think you will regret not having your brand under control? Anyone can register it and cause potential misunderstandings, involuntary or not so much, that can damage the reputation you are working on in other channels.

Secondly, to start working on the critical mass of your community from day one. As we have mentioned, it is not difficult to attract new followers, and this can be a strategic advantage over competitors who have not yet woken up. If you manage to secure your community, you can have a prominent position in this channel.

Another point to highlight, which ultimately has to do with the two points discussed, is that it will likely feed back into our Instagram profile, which will cause both to experience growth thanks to combined strategic actions.

I do not think we are facing a revolution, far from it, but it is a tool with enough entity to pay attention to.
  • What about you, have you already created your Threads profile for eCommerce, or do you think it is not a train you want to hop on? Let us know on the comments and on our social networks!
