How to Create Images for eCommerce with AI Using Nano Banana

04/11/2025
  • We are going to explain how to create irresistible images for your eCommerce with artificial intelligence: this is how we do it with Nano Banana.

  • Everyone is talking about generative Artificial Intelligences. For some, they are the evil that will end everything, while for others they are the ideal solution for any task.

The truth is that they are so powerful that, if properly applied, they open up an almost infinite range of possibilities in practically any field… including eCommerce.

In this post, I will show you how to optimize your product images, take them to another level, without needing to know how to program or design… just by asking Nano Banana.

    Take note, let´s start.
  • What is it for?

  • That is a good question, but the answer is quite broad. Using this technology will allow you to:

    • Save time and costs: retouching a photograph requires knowledge and time, two things we don’t always have in a business. AI works quickly and quite well (although it does not eliminate the need for a photographer).
    • Scalability: if a single image takes time, a full photoshoot for an entire catalog multiplies the use of resources, whereas Nano Banana does it massively and considerably faster.
    • Coherence: it allows us to apply the same retouch or prompt to all images, guaranteeing we always have the same lighting, backgrounds, adjustments…
    • Customization: we can play with the context of the same image, adapting it to the needs of each moment or season.

In short, by using AI in our eCommerce images, we save time and money, achieve a significant level of quality, and become much more efficient in management.
  • Why use Nano Banana in my online store?

  • Behind that slightly ridiculous name, let’s not deny it, lies one of the most powerful AI-based image creation tools on the market; after all, behind it is Google itself.

This statement may sound a bit subjective, but after having extensively tested DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, Leonardo, ChatGPT, and Grok, I can assure you that:

    • It stands out for its good understanding of natural language. You do not have to be a prompt-engineering expert; if you want the background to be green, for example, you can just ask for it as you would ask a person.
    • Consistency: this is where most of these tools usually fail, as they make somewhat random modifications to the original images. In eCommerce, you must remain as faithful as possible to the product, so that’s a key point in its favor.
    • Speed and efficiency: if you need to modify several photos for your eCommerce with AI, you’ll appreciate a model that is fast and efficient. Nano Banana works at a much higher speed than the vast majority of generative AIs.

In my opinion, these are three essential aspects that clearly tip the balance in favor of Nano Banana.
  • Using Nano Banana for my eCommerce images

  • Enough theory, let’s get hands-on with practice. If you are a little scared by this, I recommend that you drop that fear right away, because it is much simpler than many people think, and with practice, you will achieve better and better results.
  • Step 1: Access the platform

  • Go to AI Studio, with your usual Google user and password. In the unlikely case you do not have a Gmail account, create one first. Once inside, you will find the following interface.
  • Just with that, we can start using Gemini, Google’s model, and its different tools. Obviously, in this case, we click on Try Nano Banana.
  • Just with that, we can start using Gemini, Google’s model, and its different tools. Obviously, in this case, we click on Try Nano Banana.
  • Step 2: Set up Nano Banana

  • A new interface will open, although very similar to the previous one. You will see something quite like this.
  • Among all the available options, I will not complicate things too much: the most important one is aspect ratio. There you can choose the proportion of the images you want to generate (square 1:1, vertical reel type 9:16, or horizontal 16:9). The rest of the parameters can remain by default.
  • Step 3: Creating eCommerce images with Nano Banana

  • At the bottom there is a text box, where we will enter both the instructions of what we want to create (the prompt) and the images we’ll use as a base.

For this example, I used a royalty-free photo from Pexels, but the idea is that you use a photo of a real product. The better it is, the better everything will turn out, but you’ll see how powerful this tool is.

Let’s think we have this picture of the backpack taken outdoors, but we want to remove that background so it is neutral and, while we are at it, improve the lighting.

It’s as simple as going to the text box, clicking the small plus button to upload the image, and asking for it:

PROMPT: Improve this picture of a handbag for an online store, clean white background, soft shadows, professional lighting.
  • Done! In a few seconds, you have a photo for your online store, created by AI and with a very professional finish. It honestly feels like magic.

But imagine that the neutral background gives the product sheet a too cold appearance, and we want a more elegant catalog photo. Let’s ask Nano Banana to adjust it a bit more:

PROMPT: transform this image into a catalog photo with a beige background and elegant texture.
  • Now, imagine we want to give it a bit of a lifestyle look, showing the backpack in a real-use context and making it attractive, worthy of Pinterest or Instagram. We simply write new instructions.

PROMPT: make this product appear in a natural environment with warm light, Pinterest style.
  • Let´s have our backpack on a garden table, in an idyllic setting for our customers to project themselves aspirationally.

Now, let´s suppose we want to combine the backpack photo with another image. In this case, we use another picture from Pexels. We simply add or paste it into the text box as before, and tell it the following:

PROMPT: place this woman with that backpack in an urban environment.
  • Is it perfect? No, it could be refined further, but you cannot deny it is impressive and that it can greatly help you in the design of your online store and your social media content strategy.
  • Want more examples?

  • When you start creating and retouching your eCommerce images with Nano Banana, you will see it is almost addictive. Moreover, with practice, you will polish your prompts to achieve results that could hardly be distinguished from 100% real images.

Look how we worked on this product, the speaker. As in the first case, the background was removed, making it neutral and 100% eCommerce.
  • But we can integrate it in a super organic way, in complex environments, with warm lighting that inspires potential clients on an aspirational level.
  • Let’s move to another case. Do you have a fashion store? You are going to love this… you can take any garment, like this children’s dress.
  • And place it directly on a model, either in a studio or in lifestyle context photos. Isn’t that crazy?
  • How much does Nano Banana cost?

  • We could say that, for minimal use, Nano Banana is free. By default, you will have a number of tokens or credits. Usually, it is 32,728, and they will be deducted as you generate images.

For a concrete example, all the ones we made for this post consumed 7,926 tokens (in and out).

What if I want more? Well, in that case, you have to pay. But considering what it offers and the cost of other alternatives for image generation, I find it reasonable.

The price for one million tokens is about $30, and considering that each image costs approximately 1,300, we could say that each picture would cost around $0.04.

But if you are interested and considering it, it is always best to check directly with Google Gemini.
