Advanced Twitter features (2)

18/05/2021
  • Under its apparent simplicity, there are quite a few advanced Twitter features that you should know to get the most out of it. Let's see if you know them.

  • This social network, often undervalued from the point of view of online marketing, has a lot to offer if it is well used. In order to make a professional and efficient use of it, it is useful to know some of its advanced functions, as we already mentioned in a previous post.

The good thing is that there is still more to talk about, so we have decided to create this second article to give you even more resources.
  • Advanced Twitter features for business

  • With these 4 new features, we have continued to look for options that help you from a professional point of view, although this does not mean that they cannot be useful in your personal management of the account.

We talked about keyboard shortcuts, the advanced search engine or how to create a QR code to spread your account, among other things. Let's get straight to it.
  • #1 – Advanced searcher

  • In the previous post of this series we gave you some tips on how to perform advanced searches on Twitter. In that case we used operators that are entered into the keywords to be typed in the bar and filter the results.

But Twitter has what is possibly the best search engine of all general social networks. And that is something that many people do not know.

How to access it? Just do a normal search. When you have the results, click or tap the 3 ellipses next to the box. This will display a small menu in which there is the option "Advanced Search".
  • When you click on it, a pop-up window will appear with all the available options and filters.
  • As you can see, there are tons of variables you can include in your search. To name a few:

    • Search by words
    • Use exact phrases
    • Contains some words
    • Does not contain some words
    • Hashtags
    • Languages of the tweet
    • From some specific accounts
    • Replying to some specific account
    • Mentioning some specific account(s)
    • Filter replies (or only original tweets)
    • Show or hide results with links
    • Minimal interactions (favs, retweets and replies)
    • Delimit date range

All this combined helps you to obtain much more refined results.
  • #2 – Keyboard shortcuts

  • Unlike other networks such as Instagram, which are more oriented to the use on phones, Twitter offers a very good desktop experience (without ceasing to be really mobile friendly).

Thinking about those of us who use our account from the computer, they have created a series of keyboard shortcuts that can make our lives easier and make us more productive.

To get to know them you simply have to press the necessary key combination to type a question mark (?). This will display a new pop-up window with a summary of the shortcuts.
  • As they are quite self-explanatory, we will not waste time detailing them, we will just let you play around with them.
  • #3 – Create a QR from your profile

  • One of the changes in habits that COVID-19 has brought about is the introduction of a technology that seemed marginal: users have rediscovered two-dimensional codes.

From a marketing point of view, this is an opportunity because it allows us, for example, to make it easier to follow us from an offline environment. We can put the QR on a totem or a sticker inside our physical store or at an event.

To get it, we just need to access the Twitter profile. In this case it is more convenient to do it from the mobile, since the option is more accessible, right at the bottom: you will identify it by a small blue code just to the right.
  • This will immediately show you a code with your profile image in the middle, whose color can be changed by tapping it several times. Then just save it as an image in your photo gallery and... done.
  • #4 – Download your data

  • It never hurts to have an idea of what networks store about your company. Twitter makes it very easy for you to download a file with all your data, including every single one of your tweets since the beginning of your adventure on this network.

Just go to: "More options > Your account > Download a file with your data".
  • It will ask you to enter your password to ensure privacy and it will get to work. As soon as the file is available, an email will be sent to the associated email account with a download link.

As you can see, we were not lying: there are features that we do not usually use and, therefore, we are not taking full advantage of the experience and its possibilities.
  • Did you know about these advanced Twitter features? Do you have any more you would like to share with us? Let us know!
