Advanced Twitter features(1)

13/05/2021
  • We talk a lot about Instagram, Facebook, TikTok... but what about other networks? Discover Twitter's advanced features and see its potential.

  • It is true that Twitter seems to be left behind. Nor can we deny that it is a less attractive social network compared with its rivals in many respects, but let's not make the mistake of thinking that Twitter is dead or underestimating its potential.

Twitter is immediacy, speed of response and real-time reach. It is also an advanced tool that, perhaps, has not been able to sell its features as well as Facebook has.
  • Advanced Twitter features

  • We are not going to go into aspects such as how to create an advertising campaign or what is a trending topic. These are things that users already know very well (and in case there are doubts we leave you the links).

We want to go into detail about those things that are there but that many people are not aware of how useful they can be in a company's social media marketing strategy.
  • #1 – Search for a user's top tweets

  • Little is said about the fabulous search engine that this network has. One of the best options you can find in it is to use search operators directly in the bar.

To find out which of your own tweets or those of any other user have performed the best, just type:
  • from:[nombre usuario without “@”] min_faves:500 o min_retweets:500
  • This expression is used to list all those publications with a number of favs or retweets that reaches, at least, 500 (or the number we want, of course).
  • #2 – Find all tweets from an account on a topic

  • Another interesting Twitter trick also related to the search engine.

Surely more than once you have wondered how much you are influencing a particular topic from your account or that of your competitors. It may be a question of balancing the editorial calendar or simply because you need to find new ideas.

Well, it is as simple as typing this in your browser bar:
  • "rom:[username without "@"] "topic keyword".
  • Here you can see an example of how to find Warby Parker's content about new collections.
  • Oh, and you can also add the min_faves or min_retweets modifier if you want to know the popularity as well.
  • #3 – Getting a user to unfollow us without realizing

  • As a brand, it is pretty aggressive behavior to block a user.

No one wants to face a reputation crisis for something like this, but there are times when we have to deal with real, to use the language of the network itself, "trolls". Users who follow us to bombard our posts or simply spam us.

There is a very simple way to get them to stop following us without the need to block them definitively, and that they realize it. All you have to do is block them and then unblock them.

The user no longer follows you and nothing has happened.
  • #4 – Manage tweet notifications

  • This has surely happened to you at some point. I am talking about those times when someone quotes you in a tweet or a thread that, for whatever reason, receives a lot of interactions and comments.

In the end, this results in a hell of notifications that, beyond being quite annoying, can cause other important messages to be missed.

So that our work as Community Managers is not compromised, the most practical thing to do is to mute the conversation.

We simply have to click or tap the 3 horizontal dots on the right side of any reply to that tweet. This will display a series of options, the one we are interested in is "Mute this conversation".
  • #5 – Mute keywords

  • Well, this may not be the most appropriate thing to do on most occasions. It will always be better to know what is being said than to look the other way.

Still, it might be justified in certain circumstances when our timeline is filled with irrelevant information.

We can mute messages that contain:
    • Certain words and phrases
    • Certain hashtags
    • Certain usernames
    • Even certain emojis

This is an option you will find in your profile: More options > Mute and block.
  • Now go to "muted words" and click on the "+" sign at the top right.
  • Now all you have to do is choose the terms and the period of time in which you want those words to be muted.
  • You can see that it is not very complicated and can be a real blessing in some periods of time.,
  • Did you know about these advanced Twitter features? Well, we have more to show you. Stay tuned for our next post because there is still a lot to talk about.
