What is a lead magnet?

09/06/2020
  • The problem with online marketing is that we use English jargon too much and we may miss concepts. This time, we are going to talk about what lead magnets are.

  • The lead magnet concept sounds complicated and even sophisticated, and in some ways it is. It is a proactive method of acquiring contacts for a specific service or potential customers of a product through an integrated web strategy. It sounds interesting, doesn´t it?
  • What is a lead magnet?

  • As it is easy to see, it is a word made up of lead, which is the way to designate business contacts before becoming customers, and magnet

Therefore, we are talking about a lead magnet but, in a less literal way, we are referring to a series of resources that are used to add value and encourage the user to provide us with their contact details through arousing interest.
  • Types of lead magnet

  • In this strategy everyone wins, the brand gets a business opportunity and the customer a more or less valuable resource depending on the strategy.

Surely you have seen more than once the typical report or white paper prepared by a leading company in its sector but, in order to download it for free, all you are asked to do is register by leaving an email address.

This is a very common example, but you can actually use many other tactics, such as training with courses, tutorials, reports or ebooks with a lot of relevant information. Another option is to go directly to exclusive promotions and discounts to speed up the conversion

Usually this is communicated by various means to get it to the user. Email marketing or SEM campaigns that target a landing page with a form or pop-ups on the web to persuade and discourage the visitor from leaving it ... they go from the least to the most intrusive depending on the aggressiveness of the strategy.
