What are QR codes?

06/04/2018
  • We have been living with them for years. Those QR codes that we find from product packagings to business cards. Do know what they are exactly?

  • QR codes are not new, but the truth is that, taking into account the possibilities that they offer, they are not used as much as they should. We are going to tell you what they are and their possibilities.
  • Definition of QR code

  • This acronym comes from the union of the English terms "Quick Response Code" or quick response code. In reality, QR code is just a barcode that we can interpret with any reader.

The problem with QR codes were found at the time when they needed a hardware and a software to enter the market. However, that was not within the reach of everyone. If a company wanted to incorporate them, they needed to someone with the ability to understand how they work, a scanner and a computer with a software able to interpret it. Basically like cash registers in supermarkets.

This circumstance stopped the implementation until smartphones became an everyday life tool for most population. The mobileĀ“s camera allows to capture the QR, the terminal itself incorporates native software to run it, and you can use your Internet connection to send the response to the action. In this case, the answer is really fast as it is not conditioned as it used to be at the beginning.
  • Applications of QR code

  • First of all, they can be used as a source of traffic. Wherever we put them, either a physical medium such as a card or digital as a website, the QR contains a link that can be customized. Reading the code means to click on the link and, therefore, visit us.

QRs can be helpful to boost multi and ominical experience. Take into account that just by adding them in your retail store, you can link the products to the product datasheet in your eCommerce (for example)

They also have promotional purposes, not only because they are able to lead us to a landing page from any support, but because we can also link them to a strategy of discount coupons which, in turn, maybe associated with certain channels (for example social media) or actions (sending a QR by email marketing to your customers with a discount)
  • The possibilities are huge, so we recommend you to explore them as they can be very useful for your business.
