Instagram marketing: all you need to know(1)

20/04/2021
  • A complete guide with the main tips, tactics and strategies for Instagram marketing. A series with everything you need to know to make it easier for you to succeed.

  • There is a lot of good writing on the web about selling on Instagram. In this blog, we have talked a lot about this social network because, let's not fool ourselves, it is one of the most powerful social media marketing platforms.

Because of that, we have decided to publish this series of articles. But not only as a compilation: here you will find some more keys that are interesting and are currently trending on Instagram marketing.
  • Why should I do Instagram marketing?

  • This question is actually very simple to answer. We are talking about a network that has too many possibilities to ignore. In fact, for many niches and businesses it is the cornerstone on which the whole strategy works.

This is due to the fact that:

    • It has a huge potential audience: according to Statista data, in January 2021 it was the fifth network in number of active users (1.2 billion); but keep in mind that here are counted as "networks" Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger which, well, they are not exactly.
    • It is a mature audience: for years it has had the reputation of being a network for a young age range. But over the years, it has become much more transversal, still maintaining a high percentage of Millennials. The good thing is that this is precisely the age range of highest consumption, above the Centennials who have become strong on TikTok or Twitch.
    • The platform is very powerful: Facebook's muscle is noticeable at a glance and it turns out that Instagram is the apple of its eye. In addition to sharing advertising platform, they put all their efforts to add relevant functionalities, from Stories to Reels. Undoubtedly, it is very complete and takes -literally- the best of other social networks.
    • Perfect for branding: it has always been an inspirational network where lifestyle is more important than transactional. Later, storytelling tools were added to it, which boosted it even more. Branding helps us to position the brand and generates indirect sales.
    • It also has the capacity to sell: this is the last frontier that has been gradually crossed. They started by introducing shoppable tags and, little by little, they are making it possible to buy without friction or leaving the network itself.
  • The basics of Instagram marketing

  • We will start with those things that we must take into account in the configuration of our profile and we will progressively seeing all the important areas: what to publish, how to do it, resources to use, strategy, pay per click...
  • Optimizing the bio

  • While on other networks it can be said that the importance of the biography is residual, in the case of Instagram it is particularly relevant. This is because, while on Twitter or Facebook we can include links in the posts, the only link on IG is (so far) in the bio (also in Stories or paid campaigns).

Work the text up and down, in a persuasive way, and making everything lead you to click on that link that is worth gold. Write direct and powerful sentences, nothing gimmicky or complicated to understand. It is an exercise of synthesis in which you have to tell who your brand is and its value proposition.
  • In an organic way, without forcing and well integrated in the context, try to include the most relevant keyword (here it will help you a lot to have a good keyword research previously).

Emojis? Well, here there are different "schools". Personally, I am not a fan of them. But if used judiciously and in moderation, I recognize that they can be useful to emphasize concepts or ideas.

And before getting to the link that is the final destination of all this journey... a good call to action. Encourage them to click on the link by explaining an action: "We'll show it to you", "Find out more", or whatever best fits the tone of your client.

And now we find the link. Although most businesses point it to the home page, you can always make a more strategic use by sending traffic to a landing page or simply change it regularly to amplify the effect and distribute those visits as we see fit.
  • Maybe you thought that the biography did not have so many variables, but we have already told you that it is critical. You can go deeper into the subject and create a top bio with these tips.
  • Why don't you keep updating this information as our next Instagram Marketing posts come with everything you need to know? We are just getting started.
