How to create images with AI for your eCommerce (2)

06/04/2023
  • Let´s continue teaching you how to create images with AI for your eCommerce. We go into the subject with very interesting tools.

  • In the previous post of this series on images created with Artificial Intelligence, in addition to categorizing the types of solutions that exist, we also pointed out some of the options on the market.
  • How to use AI tools for your eCommerce

  • This time, we will focus on explaining a little better how to use Leonardo in a basic way, what are its prices and plans, and our honest opinion after having tested it for a few weeks.
  • What is Leonardo.ai?

  • There is a certain agreement that MidJourney is the best tool for image creation. The truth is that the results are spectacular, and its most recent (and most powerful) version has recently been released.

So... Why do we recommend Leonardo in the first place? Basically because of:

    • Quality of the final result (very close to MidJourney, with the right prompts).
    • For its freemium plan with less limitations. Unlike Midjourney, we can use the tool indefinitely at no cost, every day the free credits are renewed.
    • Superior image resolution. It is true that scaling has a "cost" in credits, but we can obtain photographs suitable for more uses.
  • How to join Leonardo.ai

  • To use this tool, you will need to register on their waiting list. Just follow these steps.

First go to their website and fill in the indicated field with your email address. Immediately, the tool will send you a message announcing that a welcome message has been sent to that email, and will ask you to join Discord.

This platform will not be used to generate the images, it is simply a requirement. Create an account or log in with your own, this is something they value positively and will speed up your application.

Then you will have to fill in this form and wait a couple of working days to receive the access (check your spam folder, maybe you will receive the access there).

Once you get it, you will be able to enter the app directly from the Leonardo.ai website. Just click on the buttons: "Launch app" and "I'm waitlisted", successively.
  • Using the Leonardo.ai interface to generate images with AI

  • Now that you have access to the application, you will see the main screen. It will look something similar to this:
  • As you can see, it is structured in two columns: on the left the menu with the different options, and on the right a feed with models and recent creations. The most interesting part is on the left, but before going into detail let us tell you a little more about the content on the right.

We must differentiate, as we said, between models and creations. The models have been trained to achieve a certain finish and style. For example, if you want to give a retro look to your creations, you can use the "Vintage Style Photography" template. Just click on the corresponding option and select "Use this model".

The creations are other users´ work. The most interesting thing is that the tool does not just show us the result: if we click on the image, it will reveal the prompts -positive and negative- that have been used to get to that photo. Of course, we can download, copy and edit this, and even use it as a base in image2image mode (we will explain what it is now, but it is very interesting).
  • Now we are going to focus on the menu and learn how to use the tool. Let's take a look:

    • Tokens: your available credits.
    • Home: the home screen already commented.
    • Community feed: the community creations.
    • Personal feed: a collection of your own creations.
    • Training & Datasets: advanced option to create your own models by uploading references.
Fine tuned models: you can save and consult here the most refined models, both your own and those of other Leonardo.ai users.

And then we come to the user tools, which is the one we are going to focus more on, especially in AI image Generation. This is the basis of the operation when creating images with Leonardo's Artificial Intelligence. We access from the menu to find this view:
  • The text box that can be found at the top is where we will write the prompt. It can be done without problems in Spanish, but better results are usually obtained in English.

Just below we find a couple of interesting options:

    • Model drop-down (Leonardo, Deliberate, Stable Diffusion, custom models...).
    • Style: this is a model modifier that basically brings consistency to the results. In my experience, it does not change excessively.
    • Negative prompt: this is super interesting, because it manages to refine the result much better, avoiding that certain elements appear before processing the images.
    • Prompt magic: this is supposed to be an optimizer that offers a more adequate result. What happens is that using it doubles the amount of tokens needed.
    • Prompt generation: with a couple of keywords, the tool suggests prompts options that you can use with a couple of clicks.
  • On the left side, which this changes when using the generation tool, you have other modifiers and filters:

    • Number of image variations (from 1 to 8).
    • Resolution and geometry (1:1 square, 16:9 panoramic...)
    • Image to image: thanks to this you will be able to provide the AI with a photograph as a reference.
  • Using prompts in Leonardo

  • It is, as we have already said, a text to image Artificial Intelligence, so it works in a similar way to, for example, ChatGPT, but with the difference that its answers are images.

What happens is that, once the prompt has been entered and the pertinent adjustments have been made, we still have some more options to obtain an optimal result.
  • Several of the icons at the bottom of the previews are self-explanatory. The remove or download ones are fairly standard, but to the right of these are 3 others that do require explanation:

    • Remove background: it directly deletes the background, which is especially interesting for eCommerce.
    • Upscale: what we get, with this option, is to make a high-resolution version of that image.
    • Upscale image alternative: it performs an alternative scaling, another different version.

All these alternatives are stored and can be downloaded. To do this, go to the drop-down menu on the left side and select your preference.
  • Leonardo.ai prices

  • The free plan is more than enough for occasional use (and to learn how the tool works). But, if you fall short, you have 3 more plans offering you 8,500, 25,000 or 60,000 tokens per month, respectively. These plans range from $10 to $48 per month.
  • What do you think about Leonardo when creating images for your eCommerce? Are you going to use it? Feel free to share your experience with the community.
