28/05/2015
  • As it said, easier said than done”. It is easy to say I am going to open my online clothing shop but then you don't know how to organize your ideas, where to start or how to do it.
Today, we will give you a few tips so you can have a plan to follow and to be met based on the expansion purpose of your business opportunities or start all again.

  • In the previous post we talk about ecommerce trends in 2015, in Spain 65% of users who buy on the internet do in the fashion sector. From the beginning it is a very interesting input for you, you have more opportunities than barriers. Everything moves, brands are reinvented with innovative products that attract more attention, but fashion is always there, and it can be bought by all family.

How can you create a successful online shop? Let´s start with the first steps:

    1. Define the products you want to sell on your ecommerce

What kind of product do you offer, is it for children, women, men or it's accessories of all kinds? When you have this clear, then you can define the product categories of the ecommerce. In the end, it is not a matter of having more products for the whole family, but offering high quality products. To specialize in a particular audience is good, and will be easier for the online communication and promotion that come later.

We give you some examples of the possibilities within each audience (product categories) below:

    • For women: skirts, trousers, blouses, t-shirts, jewelry, handkerchiefs, bikinis, underwear...
    • For Men: trousers, Bermuda shorts, shirts, polos, t-shirts, hats, ties, underwear...
    • For children: trousers, dresses, shorts, swimwear, jerseys, polos,t-shirts, pyjamas...

Decide the mother category and product categories, it will be an easier start for the following steps.
If your business is based on products that you design by yourself, that will change sizes and colors available, but you must also take into account the products categories.

    2. You need good photos and product description

Very important: the user who enters your online shop will not be able to touch or test the product, so you will have to ease the purchase to the fullest. For this reason, you will need a good photo gallery in which each product looks good, from every angle and detail. Oh, and it is always better that photos are made from a single location and with a neutral background (white, for example). If, in addition to photos, you can include a video product even better.

    The description
will be equally important; including price, size, colors, brand, composition, method of payment, shipping method and the own product description (must include key words for SEO positioning).

Here's an example of good photographs by Privalia.
  • Search for your ideal ecommerce platform

Concerning inspiration, Oleoshop also allows you to create your Pinterest style online shop. You can use this style and visual structure both to show your products and image galleries. The characteristic of this type of panels is that the image of the product is the protagonist and only is only accompanied with the title and the price if you show a product.

    Here are a few examples:

    1. Looks
  • 2. Pinterest style online shop
  • To conclude this point, we are going to share some examples of recommended templates for fashion and accessories online shops. However, in order to see them reflected in real cases we invite you to visit Vintage & Coffee Shop, Aragaza, or many others by clicking here.
  • 4. ¡Say HI to world!

Once completed the steps above, you will be able to make you known. It will be the moment of having online presence , so decide which social networks your brand should be on  (according to the audience to which you address, of course ) define a coherent and a continuous communication strategy that helps bring visitors to your new online shop to retain customers and sell products.

Normally, for the field of fashion and accessories ,brands tend to choose social networks like Facebook, the windowshop of all brands , where you can upload news, albums by category or new collections, share interestingarticles related to your industry, publish the events you will attend, fairs or showrooms and many other possibilities. In addition, with the “Buy” button you can put a direct link to your online shop.
  • Pinterest is also interesting, as it is increasing its popularity precisely because its users (mostly women) seek inspiration in a wide range of topics, and it would be great that they may be inspired by models, looks and complements of your brand to identify with them.
  • Another very powerful social network at visual level is Instagram, which although doesn´t allow to link the photos that you're posting directly to your online shop, it does help give great visibility to your products and find new users who might like your brand. All thanks to hashtags or labels that help segment by categories, styles, products, colors, or simply inspirational concepts.

You can take as a reference to follow some big brands such as Oysho and Pull and Bear.
  • On Twitter, you can activate Twitter Cards to give more visibility to your products. In this way, the links that contain your Tweets (for example, when you share a new product from your online shop) are previewed without having to display them. The images will be also previewed. This aspect is good to keep in mind for this social network for microblogging, but remember that Twitter is not like Facebook. Its users will decide whether or not follow you depending on the content you show them, hashtags you use and, ultimately that you do not spam to always publishing the same kind of content without any added value that maybe of interest to them.

    Let the journey begin!
